WHO WE ARE
Schultz Engineering started in September of 2009 during the greatest recession of our time. Having been at a larger firm with every other engineering discipline under one roof, we realized quickly we wanted our company to be a small family. Our company would be one that you could come to know and rely on for detailed and thorough work at a reasonable cost. Keeping our overhead low we can do that! Our motto is really all about simplicity. Be thorough, have integrity in all we do, and keep the main thing, the main thing. Having worked earlier in his career in water resource, transportation and geotechnical engineering; Brian has not only years of experience, but can explain and communicate to clients clearly about the requirements and design constraints of each proposed project. Behind the scenes, Liz has always believed in Brian from the beginning. She keeps everything running smoothly in administration, doing anything Brian doesn't have time for! Schultz Engineering started simple: in our home, servicing Central Minnesota. We not only service all of greater Minnesota and the Twin Cities now, but are licensed in North Dakota as well. As our Schultz Engineering family grows, we look forward to seeing our service area increase in the near future! Through the past 12 years, it's been our privilege to work along side each of our clients. We look forward to continuing to present you with the best plans as well as communicate, while providing integrity in the design process every step of the way.
THE TEAM
Brian Schultz
Owner & Professional Engineer
Brian graduated from Rosemount High School in 1994, and went on to attend North Dakota State University getting a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering in 1999. "Civil Engineering drew my interest in the fact that each individual project was different and unique, it would never be boring. I also love the diversity that I get between computer/office work and driving around looking/ inspecting different sites. I also like the opportunity to work in a smaller city which appealed to me in raising a family.
Brian first worked in Jamestown, North Dakota at Interstate Engineering as a staff engineer until Spring of 2000. Before marrying his wife, Liz , he relocated to Waite Park, MN. He spent 2 years working as a Geotechnical Engineer for Northern Technologies. He switched directions in 2002, joining the Civil Engineering department at Duffy Engineering in St. Cloud, eventually becoming the department head until 2009, when he started his own company.
"I think all the variety of jobs I've had along the way helped me in understanding every part of what goes into creating good Civil Engineering design."
When Brian is not busy working at the business, he loves to: travel, camp, canoe, remodel and tinker on the house and boating with family and friends on the Mississippi River.
When asked what has been the biggest surprise in creating your own business, he responded, "How fast we've grown! We've been in business now for 12 years and are established throughout greater MN, portions of ND and looking to expand to SD soon!"
Norman Statz
Civil Engineer
Norman Statz is a 2020 graduate of South Dakota State University with a degree in Civil Engineering. Norman joined us the summer of 2019 as an Intern, and came on full time in June as an EIT (Engineer in Training).
Norman, born and raised in St. Cloud, enjoys spending time with family and friends by playing strategy board games. He also enjoys sports such as running, baseball and football.
Norman enjoys giving back by volunteering time with local Catholic Ministries. He works with young adult groups and even lectures at Masses.
"I was drawn to Civil Engineering for a few reasons. I really enjoy the construction industry. I also have a cousin that is a Civil Engineer, and wanted to emulate him. I really enjoy roads and maps and Civil Engineering gives me the ability to draw a style of "maps" through the plan sheets and work in construction."
When asked what his favorite aspect of his job was, he replied, "I really enjoy working at a small company and the ability to have freedom to try designing plans on my own."
We enjoy having you Norman!
